Growing Emotional Strength
Helping Children Understand What They Feel—and Discover What Helps
Ages 8–11 | 7 Weekly Sessions | 90 Minutes
Children experience many emotions throughout their day. Understanding those feelings, recognizing how they show up in the body, and knowing which strategies may help are skills that develop over time.
Growing Emotional Strength provides a supportive small-group environment where children can explore those skills through meaningful, developmentally appropriate experiences. Children learn that all emotions are valid, while developing greater awareness of how they can respond safely and effectively when emotions feel especially strong.
Through guided learning, games, movement, creative activities, role-play, and hands-on learning, children explore emotions, body signals, triggers, and practical self-regulation strategies. During select sessions, children create their own regulation tools, giving them a hands-on and meaningful way to connect what they're learning with strategies.
The program supports the development of emotional awareness, self-understanding, self-regulation, confidence, and resilience—with practical learning children can carry into home, school, friendships, and everyday situations.
What We'll Explore
Understanding Emotions
Identify and explore emotions in ourselves and others, including the different ways emotions can feel and be expressed.
Listening to Our Bodies
Notice body signals and discover how they can provide clues about what we're experiencing.
Navigating Sadness
Explore common triggers and body signals associated with sadness and discover supportive strategies.
Navigating Anger
Recognize anger triggers and body signals while practising strategies for regulation and safe responses.
Navigating Worry
Explore worried thoughts, triggers, and body signals while discovering strategies that can help when worries arise.
Building Confidence & Recognizing Strengths
Develop positive self-talk while identifying individual abilities, qualities, and strengths.
Practising Self-Care
Explore practical ways to care for our bodies, minds, and emotional well-being.
A Toolkit That's Their Own
Throughout the program, children build a Regulation Toolkit containing strategies and resources they have explored during their sessions.
During select sessions, children also create and personalize their own regulation tools. These hands-on experiences give children a fun, practical way to connect with what they are learning and to explore tools they can use for themselves.
The child-created regulation tools become part of each child's overall Regulation Toolkit, alongside the strategies and resources introduced throughout the program. As children try different approaches, they can begin identifying what feels useful to them and develop a practical collection of tools they can continue drawing on beyond the program.
Learning Beyond the Session
Keeping Families Connected to the Learning
Following every session, families receive a Session in Review highlighting what children explored, key concepts and language, strategies introduced during the session, and simple ways to continue the learning at home.
It gives families a window into their child's experience while providing additional opportunities for children to revisit and apply their developing skills in familiar environments.

Is This Program Right for My Child?
Every child brings different strengths, communication styles, interests, and support needs. Program fit isn't about expecting every child to participate in the same way. It's about making sure the small-group environment can provide the level of support your child needs to participate meaningfully.
Growing Emotional Strength is designed as a small-group skill-building program and does not provide dedicated 1:1 support. Children therefore need enough independence to participate safely and meaningfully within a group environment.
We welcome families to contact us before registering. Learning a little about your child's strengths, interests, communication, and support needs can help determine whether Growing Emotional Strength is likely to provide a positive and meaningful group experience.
Reserve Your Child's Spot
